I exchanged my story with my classmate, Kiasia. I was surprised by
the number of similarities we shared. We also had a few key differences as
well. Some of the similarities include dial-up connections; one computer in the
household, and I think the best one was how we consistently use free AOL
monthly trials. Another important point that was brought up was the fact we
both were excited to see the evolution of the internet from dial-up to high
speed internet. Kids growing up nowadays are accustomed to high speed internet,
and they will never experience what dial-up internet was truly like. It's crazy
to think what they're going to have by the time they're twenty five. It's just
crazy to think about.
The few key differences that I mentioned earlier include the sense
of freedom, and the use of Myspace. I could pretty much do whatever I wanted to
while I was on the computer, and Kiasia couldn't. Kiasia's parents would always
monitor what she was doing while the computer was being used. Initially Myspace
received a lot of bad press so it's understandable that it would make a lot of
parents concerned about the website.
